Wilton Rotary Club raised more than £10,000 to replace a beloved therapy horse by holding a fundraising ball.
The ball was held at the Stones Hotel on Friday, May 2, falling on the 120th anniversary of Rotary.
Amidst an evening of laughter and generosity at the Stones Hotel, 114 guests joined forces, surpassing the £8000 target with £10,400 raised to replace the therapy horse at Wilton Riding for the Disabled (RDA), after the previous one, Puzzle, died from colic.
Comedian Adger Brown auctioned off items, while live music by “Steve Smith and Friends” filled the dance floor.
Andy Rhind-Tutt, Wilton Rotary Club president, said: “The highlight of the evening was the joyous revelation that Dexter, a beautiful 7-year-old cob, had been secured earlier that day as Puzzle’s successor and had been delivered to Wilton. The members of our club absolutely embodied the essence of Rotary and I cannot thank them enough. We did it!”
Guests and supporters, including friends, family, and local businesses, contributed through donations, raffle prizes, and silent auctions. Their collective efforts ensure that Wilton RDA can continue its therapeutic work, providing solace and rehabilitation through equine-assisted activities.
Wilton RDA chair, Jackie Worrall said: “The work the members of Wilton Rotary Club do in this community is incredible. We are truly lucky to have them and cannot thank them enough for all they do for all of us”.
